Shade & Wise was founded in 1949 as a building material supply house in the heart of the City of Richmond, Virginia. John Shade’s and Louis Wise’s business philosophy was founded on the principles of fair pricing, and above all, quality customer service. Over the ensuing years, the company has evolved from a small general-purpose building supply house to a major distributor of masonry products. In the 1990’s a period of enormous growth and change came to Shade & Wise. As we entered the new millennium, the shift to commercial construction was considered, the addition of Certified Brick Specialist as an integral part of the team was implemented.
Today we boast as having our entire sales department being “CBS Certified” and growing in education and technical knowledge to better serve the masonry and architectural communities.
The company is currently operating two locations to serve the masonry needs of the Richmond metropolitan market. Our headquarters located on Dabney Road in Henrico County maintains a 34,000 sqft facility with four to six million brick in stock. Our branch office in Powhatan Virginia, is a 25,000 sqft distribution center with a state of the art showroom and an inventory of two to three million bricks on hand. Shade & Wise is now the largest independent masonry products distributor in Central Virginia.
The 1990’s brought enormous change and growth to Shade & Wise. As we enter the new millennium, we expect more of the same; all the while, adhering to the original principles of fair pricing and quality customer service which have served us well over the past 50 years.
